Preorder Memory of Dragons for a Discount

June 9, 2020 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Memory of Dragons cover

Preorder now for cheap!

It’s nearly book release time! In less than a week, Memory of Dragons, my new contemporary fantasy set in modern Britain, will be released. This one has been a long time coming, so I’m super excited to finally let everyone read it. I’m so excited that I’m running a preorder special: Order Memory of Dragons for Kindle now, and you’ll lock in the 99 cent discount price and be ready to read the second it goes live (well, after a brief downloading time, I suppose) on June 15th.

Here’s a taste of what advance reviewers have said about Memory of Dragons:

“The novel is set in present day England and Wales which made such a nice change to most fantasy novels. I did have some reservations as to how this setting would work for a story involving magic and dragons but Munz expertly intertwined these two seemingly opposites. It brought the magic and otherworldly aspects to a more recognisable setting which is quite a unique feat.

The characters were likable and each had their own quirks, making them unique to this novel. Personally, however, the concept of this book was the star of the show and I loved the individuality to it. I also liked how well everything was explained and at no point was I confused with the plot or where it was going.”

-Alice and Her Bookshelf (read the full review here)

“I couldn’t put this book down from a chapter one- it has everything, love, magic, dragons and an epic battle to save the world. This book is a fast-paced, gripping ride where the author allows you to know the back story without lengthy explanations or descriptions and has plenty of twists and turns without straying too far from the plot and leaves you longing for more.”

-Goodreads review (read the full review here)

“I think this is an excellent book for those who enjoy both adult and YA fantasy. Munz successfully crafts a nice, easy to follow storyline that hosts elements fans of both genres will appreciate.”

-Goodreads review (read the full review here)

Like I said, I can’t wait for all of you to get a look at it. Grab it now while it’s less than a buck!

Cover Reveal: Memory of Dragons

March 7, 2020 By Michael G. Munz 2 Comments

It’s here, it’s ready to show, and I’m excited: It’s the cover reveal for my upcoming fantasy novel, Memory of Dragons!
I’ll tell you more about the book itself below, but first, have a look at this cover:
Memory of Dragons cover

(Click to embiggen!)

Isn’t that fantastic? The artist is Franzi Haase, and you can check out more of her work on her website and Instagram.

So now that you’ve seen the cover, I bet you want to know what the book is actually about, huh? Memory of Dragons is unique among my books in the sense that that it’s fantasy (as opposed to the sci-fi of the New Aeneid Cycle), but also serious rather than comedy (as opposed to the Zeus Is Dead series). It’s a tale of magic, fae creatures, and dragons, set in modern Britain. It’s also much more focused than the Zeus Is Dead novels, with a tighter cast of characters. I’ll share more in the coming months before its early summer release. For now, I’ll simply leave you with the back cover description…

With a dragon’s magic, even a memory can be dangerous…

Austin is an American graduate student, on leave to mourn the death of his girlfriend, Rhi. Yet during a pilgrimage to her favorite place on the Welsh coast, he finds she may not be as dead as he thought. A pickpocket named Corinna claims to have stolen her memories. Rhi was a wizard from another world, she insists, and if Austin doesn’t trust her, that world will perish in an apocalypse of dragons.

Austin rejects Corinna’s story. Magic? Stolen memories? Dragons? Yet soon, a sinister figure begins stalking him. A glowing crystal speaks with a voice in his mind. When a creature too horrible to be natural attacks, snarling Austin’s name through mangled mandibles, he must reexamine his grasp of reality, or die.

Corinna might be his only hope. Can he trust her, an admitted thief, when the voice from the crystal calls her a liar? Meanwhile, Austin’s stalker creeps ever closer, murderous, implacable, and seeking a confrontation on which hinges Austin’s life, Rhi’s death, and the fate of two worlds.

Memory of Dragons imagines our fairy tale monsters are another world’s criminal castoffs, and that magic can exist, if we can stomach the cost.

Curious to know more? Leave me some questions in the comments, and add the book to your shelf on Goodreads!
I’ll be back with more details soon…

October 14, 2019 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

I’m pleased to announce that Zeus Is Undead: This One Has Zombies, has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor in becoming an award-winning book!

Yesterday, Zeus Is Undead was named the Outstanding Winner for Humor/Comedy/Satire in the 2019 Independent Author Network Book of the Year Awards, and placed as a Finalist for Fantasy as well!

On top of that, the 2019 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards gave Zeus Is Undead their Gold Medal for Mythology!

So it seems other people enjoy the idea of Greek gods fighting zombies in the modern world almost as much as I do. If you haven’t grabbed it already, Zeus Is Undead is now available on Amazon, Kobo, Nook, and iTunes.

Zeus Is Dead: Audiobook Release!

August 28, 2018 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

At long last, Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure is available as an audiobook today!

Almost since the day the book came out, people have asked me “Can I get it in audibook?” I always had to say “No,” or “Not yet, but I’m looking into it,” or “How did you get in my pantry?” Today, thanks to publisher Tantor Media (an imprint of RBMedia, currently the largest independent publisher of audiobooks) I can finally say, “YES!” (And “Get out of my pantry!”)

The Zeus Is Dead audiobook is read by Travis Baldree. A veteran audiobook narrator, not only has Baldree narrated audiobooks by authors such as Kevin J. Anderson and Matt Coyle, but he’s also a winner of the Audiofile Earphones Award! Audiofile awards this to “truly exceptional titles that excel in narrative voice and style, characterizations, suitability to audio, and enhancement of the text.”  (He also founded video game companies Runic Games and Double Damage, and made Torchlight and Rebel Galaxy, so he’s got geek-cred up the wazoo.)

Right now you can grab the audiobook on Amazon Audible, iTunes, Audiobooks.com, Kobo, and on Tantor’s website. Audio samples are available on each site. Already got the ebook through Kindle? Audible gives you a discount! Check it out! 😀

The razorwing isn’t white! OOOooohh! WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I may be biased, but I think you should get this audiobook just as soon as humanly possible.

Zeus Is Dead has been optioned!

October 6, 2017 By Michael G. Munz 3 Comments

So, wow.

Wow.

This is just pretty frelling awesome, if you’ll pardon my saying so. I’m just a little bit excited here. Why? (Thank you, imaginary leading-question-person!) After having to keep this under my hat for months, it’s finally official: my comedic fantasy novel, Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure, has been optioned by 5×5 Media, Inc. with an eye to develop it into a TV series!!!(!)

I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally be able to TELL people his! It’s bee a while in coming, with lots of maybes, hypotheticals, and uncertainty. There were a lot of positive indications that something might be happening, but, at last, an actual, official option agreement was drawn up, reviewed, and signed! [Read more…]

Michael Re-Watches Twin Peaks: Season 2 Finale!

September 7, 2017 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Season 2, Episode 22
Written by Mark Frost, Harley Peyton, & Robert Engels
Directed by David Lynch

As you may remember, Nick, at my insistence, told me who killed Laura Palmer before I began to watch the series. He did NOT reveal to me the way the series ended. He did not tell me that Cooper would be going into the Black Lodge. And he most certainly did not tell me about “How’s Annie?”

I’m very glad he did not, even though it resulted in my turning to him at the end of my original viewing and shouting, “WHAT?!” (Note: I do not remember precisely what I said. I may have said something like, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”, “HOLY @&%*!!”, or, just maybe, “Gimme a donut.”)

As I am a semi-regular human being, the whole bit with Cooper’s journey through the Waiting Room and Black Lodge did not entirely make sense to me. Nick helped me understand a little more by giving me his own interpretation. Yet what really helped me solidify a comprehension of both what the narrative was trying to show–and what actually happened to Cooper–was the simple act of re-watching the series about ten more times over the next few years. As a result, most of this post is going to be a little bit different than the earlier ones. After a bit of reaction to the non-Lodge bits, I’m going to go into my scene-by-scene interpretation (explanation?) of what’s going on after Cooper slips between the red curtains in that circle of sickly sycamore trees.

So let’s get started on this final episode, shall we? [Read more…]
