It’s time to get to know the characters of Memory of Dragons! Okay, so the only real way to get to know them is to actually read the book–which you can now preorder for Kindle at a discount!–but here’s an introduction to the main folks. Note: there are minor spoilers here, but not much more than you’d get from reading the cover. And there will still be a few other intriguing supporting characters (people? monsters? faerie creatures?) to discover when you dive into the novel itself…

Austin: A twenty-nine-year-old American graduate student, Austin was a year away from earning a PhD in physics when the woman he loved perished in a car accident. Now, he travels to Britain to honor her memory. Austin’s worldview is evidence-based, and soon he must reconcile his disbelief in the supernatural with a terrifying firsthand experience of magical power and a literal monster attack. If magic and monsters are real, then what about life after death? And is that glowing crystal he found really talking to him?

Corinna: A twenty-five-year-old Irish woman living in England, Corinna makes her living as a barista and part-time musician. She also picks tourists’ pockets as a hobby. When her most recent pick gets her more than she bargained for, Corinna is filled with memories that are not her own, a sudden aptitude for magic, and a powerful impulse to recover a mystical crystal from the Welsh coast. It’s a quest that will bring her and Austin together, but only Corinna truly knows why.

Maeron: A genteel man in his late-thirties with a broad smile, Maeron is a sorcerer specialized in mnemonimancy, a form of magic based on memory. He is as deadly as he is personable. Born in a world called Rhyll, which uses our own world as a dumping ground for its undesirables, Maeron came to Earth as part of an expedition to recover a crystal that holds a lost dragon spirit. He soon betrayed his fellows, executing them one by one, until only Rhianon survived. Now, he’ll stop at nothing to recover the crystal again.

Rhianon: The youngest member of the expedition from Rhyll, Rhianon was the only survivor of Maeron’s treachery. She struck the strongest blow against his plans, hiding the crystal beyond his reach. A practiced student of mnemonimancy herself, she begins Memory of Dragons on the run in the English city of Bath. For her, ours is a world filled with amazing machinery, but few allies. The sacrifice she makes to safeguard the crystal alters not only her own fate, but the fate of two worlds.

Boden: A dragon, once from the world of Rhyll, now disembodied and imprisoned within a magical crystal. A holder of power, wisdom, and secrets, many seek Boden, for many reasons. Even so, Boden will only speak with one American tourist, who had not intended to find him at all.

It’s nearly book release time! In less than a week, Memory of Dragons, my new contemporary fantasy set in modern Britain, will be released. This one has been a long time coming, so I’m super excited to finally let everyone read it. It’s here, it’s ready to show, and I’m excited: It’s the cover reveal for my upcoming fantasy novel, Memory of Dragons!
I’ll tell you more about the book itself below, but first, have a look at this cover:

Isn’t that fantastic? The artist is Franzi Haase, and you can check out more of her work on her website and Instagram.

So now that you’ve seen the cover, I bet you want to know what the book is actually about, huh? Memory of Dragons is unique among my books in the sense that that it’s fantasy (as opposed to the sci-fi of the New Aeneid Cycle), but also serious rather than comedy (as opposed to the Zeus Is Dead series). It’s a tale of magic, fae creatures, and dragons, set in modern Britain. It’s also much more focused than the Zeus Is Dead novels, with a tighter cast of characters. I’ll share more in the coming months before its early summer release. For now, I’ll simply leave you with the back cover description…

With a dragon’s magic, even a memory can be dangerous…

Austin is an American graduate student, on leave to mourn the death of his girlfriend, Rhi. Yet during a pilgrimage to her favorite place on the Welsh coast, he finds she may not be as dead as he thought. A pickpocket named Corinna claims to have stolen her memories. Rhi was a wizard from another world, she insists, and if Austin doesn’t trust her, that world will perish in an apocalypse of dragons.

Austin rejects Corinna’s story. Magic? Stolen memories? Dragons? Yet soon, a sinister figure begins stalking him. A glowing crystal speaks with a voice in his mind. When a creature too horrible to be natural attacks, snarling Austin’s name through mangled mandibles, he must reexamine his grasp of reality, or die.

Corinna might be his only hope. Can he trust her, an admitted thief, when the voice from the crystal calls her a liar? Meanwhile, Austin’s stalker creeps ever closer, murderous, implacable, and seeking a confrontation on which hinges Austin’s life, Rhi’s death, and the fate of two worlds.

Memory of Dragons imagines our fairy tale monsters are another world’s criminal castoffs, and that magic can exist, if we can stomach the cost.

Zeus Is Undead is an award-winner!

I’m pleased to announce that Zeus Is Undead: This One Has Zombies, has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor in becoming an award-winning book!

Yesterday, Zeus Is Undead was named the Outstanding Winner for Humor/Comedy/Satire in the 2019 Independent Author Network Book of the Year Awards, and placed as a Finalist for Fantasy as well!

On top of that, the 2019 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards gave Zeus Is Undead their Gold Medal for Mythology!

So it seems other people enjoy the idea of Greek gods fighting zombies in the modern world almost as much as I do. If you haven’t grabbed it already, Zeus Is Undead is now available on Amazon, Kobo, Nook, and iTunes.

It’s here! My latest comedic fantasy, Zeus Is Undead: This One Has Zombies is published and available today! It’s taken me far longer than I would have liked to get this book out there, but I’m pleased it’s finally ready for you. It’s definitely something I can be proud of.

Thanks to designer Greg Simanson for his hard work in making the cover for the sequel look just as great as the original! Yes, expect to see a razorwing or two in the book. Yes, those are fuzzy handcuffs. As for why the cuffs, the bread, the beer, and the glowing trapezohedronal-whatzit are there at all, well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out.

The official release date is still squirming around in an obstinate refusal to be pinned down, but I’ll have an actual date for you soon, I promise! Watch this space for updates!

Zeus Is Dead Sequel: Title Reveal!

There hasn’t been much activity here on the blog lately. It’s taken a back seat to finishing the Zeus Is Dead sequel so I can get that sucker out to you all just as soon as possible. (It’s my most successful book! It’s been recently published in audio book format! It’s been optioned for possible movie/TV adaptation! Why haven’t I gotten a sequel out yet?!) 

I’m pleased to say now that I sent the manuscript to my editor a few days ago. I now await its return, all marked up and noted so that I can finish the polishing stage and head on toward release. A designer is working on the cover as I type this. So it’s about time to announce the official title, isn’t it? Sure, you already know the “Zeus Is Undead” part, but what about the rest? Well, hold onto your butts, because here it comes, without further ado, yammering, or blathering on my part. The Zeus Is Dead sequel shall be called…
