Guest Geeks: Tammy Thomas and the Ninth Doctor

April 7, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 1 Comment

After a Norwescon-induced hiatus, the Guest Geeks feature is back! This time up, my guest is sci-fi/fantasy geek Tammy Thomas. Now, I’ve always found David Tennant to be my own personal favorite Doctor, but I have to admit that Tammy has got the best and most touching argument I’ve ever heard for why the ninth Doctor is the best doctor. Take it away, Tammy!

Good news! I’ve been invited to a wedding!

April 4, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Iron ThroneSorry the blog’s been a bit quiet this week, everyone. I’ve been busy at Norwescon reading from Zeus Is Dead and appearing on panels. (Sometimes I actually speak while I’m on them, even!) Also, I passed George R. R. Martin in the hallway and survived.

I hope to have something more interesting for you here soon, including the next installment of Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse…

Farscape Rewatch: “Season of Death”

March 23, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 4 Comments

You know, given how many times plans don't work on this show, you'd think there'd have been an episode titled "Plan B" long before this…

It’s ironic, perhaps, that the episode called “Season of Death” features a resurrection, but this season makes up for that soon enough…

Season 3, Episode 1:
“Season of Death”
****3/4 out of *****

“We’re going to bring him out here, and see how HE likes the cold!”
“What if he likes it?”
“…ONE! PROBLEM! AT A TIME!!”

Sci-fi Movie Trailer: Ex-Machina

March 22, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

I just caught word of this movie, which looks to explore the ramifications of artificial intelligence, at least according to one person’s vision. As a sci-fi fan who sometimes writes about this sort of thing, too, I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

It’s been released in the United Kingdom already, to apparently very favorable reviews.
Ex Machina comes to theaters in the United States on April 10th.

Farscape Rewatch: “Die Me, Dichotomy”

March 14, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

You know, given how many times plans don't work on this show, you'd think there'd have been an episode titled "Plan B" long before this…

“Oh, you wanted a little time for a breather? Well TOUGH! It’s the frelling season finale!”

Season 2, Episode 22:
“Die Me, Dichotomy”
***** out of *****

“You’re right, Aeryn. There’s no Scorpius here.”

So after a three-part nail-biting action extravaganza, Farscape decides it’s time to slow things down just a bit and then SHOVE US ALL THROUGH AN EMOTIONAL MEAT-GRINDER!

Don’t you just love this show?

Farscape Rewatch: “Liars, Guns, and Money – Plan B”

March 5, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Farscape

You know, given how many times plans don’t work on this show, you’d think there’d have been an episode titled “Plan B” long before this…

Season 2, Episode 21:
“Liars, Guns & Money Part 3: Plan B”
***** out of *****

“What if Crichton’s worse, and won’t be rescued?”
“Well, that’s easy. I put a bullet in Crichton’s head, and end it.” [Read more…]
