Farscape Rewatch: “Losing Time”

June 25, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 3 Comments

Farscape

“This plan is so bad, it HAS to be ours.”

Season 3, Episode 9:
“Losing Time”
***1/2 out of *****

“I am bleeding and I have no wounds, so I’m either St. John of the Uncharted Territories, or there’s something very, very wrong with me!”

Having spent an entire episode with black-T-shirt Crichton aboard Talyn in the last episode, it’s time to swing back to Moya to spend entire ep with green-T-shirt Crichton! (Well, almost an entire episode, but we’ll get to that later.) I’d say this is a weird one, but this is Farscape, and they’re ALL weird ones, right? That’s why we love it! [Read more…]

Guest Geeks: Eric Turowski and the D&D “Satanic Panic”

June 23, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Guest GeeksThe world of role-playing games is widespread these days, with games of every kind, in many different mediums, spanning genres and filling up convention after convention. While stigmas and stereotypes still exist for those who play, player demographics span nearly every age, gender, and class. (Did you know Roger Moore and Vin Diesel were adult Dungeons & Dragons players?) But it wasn’t always so. Like rock & roll before it, tabletop role-playing—and D&D in particular—had some, shall we say, wildly inaccurate perceptions in its early days. Today, Guest Geek Eric Turowski paints us a picture…

Farscape Rewatch: Green Eyed Monster

June 17, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Farscape

In which the primary conflict of this episode is resolved through vomit.

Season 3, Episode 8:
“Green Eyed Monster”
****1/2 out of *****

“That’s no moon. That’s a budong!”

Take a love triangle that’s not really a love triangle, add in some neural transponder linkages, wrap it up in a setting that’s a fourth character in itself, and chuck it all down the gullet of a budong! What you’ve got is Farscape‘s answer to the psychological thriller Crichton, Aeryn, Crais, and Talyn all have to duel with each other’s emotions amid the pressure-cooker of a cyclopean alien stomach. Guest Geeks: K.M. Alexander

June 10, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Guest GeeksWelcome back! (Look at me, typing as if I’m welcoming you back from a commercial break or something. I’ve been watching too much Conan.) Given the big ol’ “Guest Geeks” up there at the top of the page, the more attentive among you have likely already picked up on the fact that it’s time for another guest to the blog who will help me fill it up with something geeky. This time we’ve got Lovecraft fan and fellow writer K.M. Alexander, who I met for the first time at Norwescon in April after learning of his writing from the Seattle Geekly podcast folk. Here’s here to talk about everyone’s favorite Lovecraftian insanity-entity, Cthulhu… So let’s give a big “Ai! Ai! Alexander fhtagn!” and read on, because he makes a very good point about…

Playing, Reading, Watching

June 4, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 2 Comments

I should really be writing A Dragon at the Gate at the moment. That’s what I sat down here to do. Yet it’s been a long day, my brain is frazzled, and so it’s revolting and craving leisure. So in an attempt to placate my lazy-ass brain while at the same time at least appearing to get something done, I’m going to take a cue from the Geek Bomb podcast folks (who were good enough to have me on their show last fall) and geek out with you a little over what I’m playing, reading, and watching. Farscape Rewatch: “Thanks for Sharing”

May 31, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Farscape

“Every frelling planet…”

Season 3, Episode 7:
“Thanks For Sharing”
***1/2  out of *****

“Cross my heart, smack me dead, stick a lobster on my head.”

All Crichton and the gang want is to buy some chromextin fluid to heal Talyn, but there’s obviously no way that’s going to go smoothly, and soon both Crichtons are caught up in some planetary politics with the ruling family and the Lobster-O-Truth. Also: A freaky-as-frell-looking red alien thingy. [Read more…]
