August 2, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

RedMusePress-red-squareWhen Booktrope, my former publisher, closed its doors at the end of May, I focused on getting the ebook versions of my novels back up for sale under my new imprint, Red Muse Press, as soon as possible. Missing since then have been the paperback versions. Well, no longer!

I’m pleased to announce that the Red Muse Press versions of all of my existing novels are now available on Amazon. Not only that, they’re at lower prices than they were previously. So far, most of my readers prefer ebooks, but for those of you who like to the feel of a physical book in your hands, I’m excited to offer them again.

If you’ve read the rest of The New Aeneid Cycle, I’m sure you recognize by now the work of Amalia Chitulescu. I haven’t worked with her in a while, and it was great to do so again. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. You’ll now see the image above replacing all of the temporary cover images for the book on this site.

A Dragon at the Gate officially comes out on August 17th. Be sure to follow me on Amazon or sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss it when it drops! Got to this page from somewhere else and want to know more right now? Here ya go…

A DRAGON AT THE GATE

Michael Flynn has lost time. An operative in the worldwide conspiracy known as the Agents of Aeneas, the last thing he remembers is the struggle to retake Paragon—the derelict alien spacecraft found crashed on the Moon. Yet that was three months ago. Now, as he wakes in a hospital back in the high-tech, urban strife of Northgate, his struggle begins anew.

The Agents of Aeneas have vanished.

His friends are either missing, in danger, or altered. Hired killers shadow his every move. And Jade, the mysterious, cyber-enhanced woman watching over him, will give no answers. Thrust into a blind search for the truth, Michael needs allies. Yet whom can he trust when once loyal friends may have turned against him?

Meanwhile, an intelligence thought trapped within Paragon has escaped to Northgate. Driven to fulfill the goals of the mysterious “Planners,” it, too, seeks allies. When it finds them, it will transform the face of Northgate, the world, and the entire human race.

The year 2051 draws to a close, and nothing will be the same.

Following A Shadow in the Flames and A Memory the Black, A Dragon at the Gate is the third and final book in my cyberpunk series The New Aeneid Cycle: In the high-tech urban violence of the mid-21st century, humanity seems destined to destroy itself. Now those who seek to save it may have just found the means…

Now (Re)publishing via Red Muse Press!

June 1, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

And so it begins!

So you heard the news a few weeks ago: Booktrope, the publisher I signed with in 2014, went out of business as of May 31st. As I retain the rights to my books, I’ve chosen, for the moment, to republish them myself under my own imprint. I’m now pleased to present to you the name of that imprint, along with its own fancy-ass logo!

Red Muse Press Logo

Actually, I suppose it’s kind of a simple-ass logo. But it’s a logo. They’re supposed to be efficient like that. And I really like it. So there.

Writing Update: A Dragon at the Gate – March 2016

March 6, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

A Dragon at the Gate

And this is still just a temporary cover.

This post is coming to you from one of those crowded, caffeine-fueled generators of books known as a café. (Yes, I often write in cafés. I’m a human cliché.) I’m closing in on the point where I can finally put the words “The End” on A Dragon at the Gate, the third and final book in the New Aeneid Cycle. Of course, this particular writing session is going about as well as a rowboat made of sugar, so I’m shifting my focus to the blog so as to best procrastinate and hide from my problems.

So here’s the skinny. (The “skinny”? Who talks like that?) I’m currently on day 3 of a 6-day forced writing march. (The fact that it’s also taking place IN March–and that I’m writing this on March 6th, come to think of it–is pure coincidence. But it is kinda neat, isn’t it?) I’ve taken off of my day job. I’ve (mostly) avoided my social media. I’ve shunned my friends. My goal in this is to finally finish the book by March 9th. There will still need to be rewrites, polishing, and a smattering of unwritten scenes, of course. Those I’ll be finishing up by the end of March, at which time I’ll be handing it over to my editor and entering the final stages of getting the book into published form, which will come in paperback and ebook forms.

Except for this afternoon’s troubles, it’s going pretty well. I’m pushing myself, but it’s paying off. I have a clear path to the end of the book, and I’m confident that I’m going to make it. As a certain psychopathic, delusional man-boy recently said, “I know the words. I have the best words.” 😉 A Dragon at the Gate is going to be a wild ride, and I want to make it the best of the series.

As for when you’ll finally be able to read it, things still need to be worked out on that front, but assuming I can stay on schedule, we’re looking at very late spring or early summer. And then you’ll get to know just what happens, who survives, and just what the heck is going on up there on the Moon, because even if you’ve read A Shadow in the Flames and A Memory in the Black, there’s a very key element missing.

And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
For now.

Writing Update: A Dragon at the Gate & Zeus Is Dead 2

August 27, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 1 Comment

Writing a story never quite goes the way you think it will.

Something always changes along the way, even if you plan ahead of time. Things occur to you while writing, characters take control in your head, and sometimes just the act of getting an idea on paper brings out its negative points that didn’t seem nearly so problematic beforehand. And that’s not a bad thing; often this leads to something better in the end.

A Dragon at the Gate

Coming in 2015?

Yet that voyage of discovery takes time, especially when you–and here when I say “you” I mean “me”–are not the fastest writer in the world. How I long for the prolific rate of Stephen King, but that’s just not how my mind works. (Also, Stephen King doesn’t have a non-writing day job taking up his time.) And all that is my lead-in to saying that A Dragon at the Gate is not progressing as quickly as I’d like. [Read more…]

Writing Update: A Dragon at the Gate

May 29, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

It’s been a little while since I checked in with you folks to give a status update on A Dragon at the Gate. For those of you who’ve only come here for my Farscape rewatching or Percy Jackson reading, A Dragon at the Gate is the third and final book in my cyberpunk series known as The New Aeneid Cycle. Don’t let the “dragon” in the title fool you: this is sci-fi set in the mid-21st century.

A Dragon at the Gate

The dragon may be a metaphor.
Or it may not be…

Like I said, I’ll be reading from A Memory in the Black, the second novel in my sci-fi/cyberpunk series, in honor of its recent Booktrope re-release. Joining me will be fellow author (and recent Guest Geek) Camela Thompson, who will give you a taste of her supernatural thriller Blood, Spirit, & Bone, the latest novel in The Hunted series. And do you see that Space Needle made of bone tucked away on the cover of her first book there? It’s set in Seattle!
