Vampires. They’re everywhere: In our cinema, in our nightmares, and sometimes in our kitchens. (What, you think English “blood pudding” is something a rational human being actually thought would taste GOOD?) Well, now they’re in the Guest Geek series! Yep, it’s time for another installment of Guest Geeks. My guest this time is Z.D. Gladstone. She was kind enough to have me on the Shadows on the Sound podcast a little while back talking about Greek mythology, so I invited her to drop by Geek Notes. Z.D. has given us a post that combines two of my own interests: psychology and vampires.
Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse – Ch 9

Hey, does Percy run afoul of the titular Titan’s curse at the end of this chapter, or is that still to come?
Some character development for Dionysus, Percy visits Washington D.C., and we meet in person the Titan that I’m still betting is Atlas. Oh, and Percy’s in mortal danger. Or demigod danger. Or something. Also, kittens. All this and more in the ninth chapter of Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse…

Movie Review: Mad Max: Fury Road
Well holy flerking schnit, that was an awesome experience!
A couple of days ago I went to see Mad Max: Fury Road with a couple of friends. It was something of a spur-of-the-moment thing. I hadn’t originally been that excited for Fury Road. It was on my mental list of movies I’d probably see if I got around to it, but would likely end up renting. (Note that many movies on that mental-rental list—hee hee, rhyming!—are often forgotten between the time they’re in theaters and the time they’re available on DVD.) [Read more…]
Guest Geeks: Laura VanArendonk Baugh
It’s Wednesday (or at least it is somewhere), and so it’s time for another Guest Geek post! Today fellow geek, Laura VanArendonk Baugh takes us into the world of cosplay. It’s something I’ve always admired but never quite managed the energy for myself, unless you count my Tony Stark outfit that I wore for Halloween last year. Laura, on the other hand, definitely knows what she’s doing, and it’s pretty darned impressive! (And suddenly I’m thinking about cosplay possibilities for Zeus Is Dead…)
See for yourself!
Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse – Ch 8
This chapter felt really, really short. So that’s pretty much my introduction. All this and a teensy bit more in the eight chapter of Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse, a.k.a…

Farscape Rewatch: “Eat Me”
Season 3, Episode 6:
“Eat Me”
★★★★ out of ★★★★★
“I’ve never twinned a Luxan before.”
“Why me?”
“We’re going to make babies.”
And here we have one of my favorite episodes from the third season. My admiration for it comes from both the horror of the episode itself, and for what it sets up for the future. [Read more…]
Come see me at Third Place Books on May 28th!
Are you in the Seattle area? (Or even somewhere else with a burning desire to fly out to Seattle because what the heck why not and life is short?) Want to listen to me read from A Memory in the Black? Want to eat free cookies?? Then hold on to your butts, because May 28th just may be your lucky day…

May 28th, 7pm, at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park
Like I said, I’ll be reading from A Memory in the Black, the second novel in my sci-fi/cyberpunk series, in honor of its recent Booktrope re-release. Joining me will be fellow author (and recent Guest Geek) Camela Thompson, who will give you a taste of her supernatural thriller Blood, Spirit, & Bone, the latest novel in The Hunted series. And do you see that Space Needle made of bone tucked away on the cover of her first book there? It’s set in Seattle!

May 28th, 7pm, at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, just north of Seattle.
Click here for the Facebook event page.
We hope to see you there!
(Did I mention free cookies?)
