A Dragon at the Gate available for pre-order! Plus a 99 cent sale!

August 8, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

As the August 17th release day hurtles toward us for A Dragon at the Gate, the final book in my cyberpunk adventure series The New Aeneid Cycle, I’m excited to announce that you can now pre-order the book!
What’s more, right now you can also get books 1 and 2 in the series for just 99 cents each!

Each book in the series has its own stand-alone narrative arc, so you can pick up any book and be okay, but of course all three together make up the complete story…

99 Cents

99 cents for a limited time!

A SHADOW IN THE FLAMES – 99 cent sale for Kindle

“A decaying city, a mysterious arson, and a secret below the moon’s surface drive the action of this engaging and thought-provoking sci-fi thriller. A Shadow in the Flames will keep you guessing to the very end.”

—Terry Persun, author of Revison 7: DNA

“Dark, violent, relentlessly intriguing and action-packed, A Shadow in the Flames excels at dystopian world building. A well-developed, multi-layered story that grabs the reader on page one and never lets go.”

—Kenneth G. Bennett, author of Exodus 2022

A MEMORY IN THE BLACK – 99 cent sale for Kindle

“Munz skillfully interposes characters and events in a way that keeps one guessing, while ever hinting that the story—and the conspiracy behind it—is far vaster than one ever sees.”

—JM Guillen, author of On the Matter of the Red Hand

“A great story contrasting corporate greed and corruption with the hope to save humanity from itself. I love the darkness that is exposed in A Memory in the Black, the depths that people will stoop to just to serve their own purpose.”

—2BookLoversReviews.com

A Dragon at the Gate 2D cover low-res

$3.99 Pre-Order, Releasing 8/17/16

A DRAGON AT THE GATE – Pre-order at $3.99 for Kindle

“Not a book to read before bed unless you aren’t planning on going to sleep until sometime next week. Munz has a way of developing female characters that are believably badass and likable. I especially fell in love with the cybernetic implant technology. Damn it, now I want some glowing hair.”

—Tiffany Pitts, author of Double Blind

“In a time where so many stories are re-hashed sequels and re-boots, Munz has created some truly spectacular science fiction. The entire series delivers what it promises, and so much more. Every time I believed I knew what came next, I found myself very pleasantly surprised.”

—JM Guillen, author of The Paean of Sundered Dreams

At the moment, the pre-order and sales are only available on the Kindle versions. A paperback version of A Dragon at the Gate will also be available starting on August 17th. I can’t wait for everyone to read it! I really feel the series just gets better with each successive book.

If you’ve read the rest of The New Aeneid Cycle, I’m sure you recognize by now the work of Amalia Chitulescu. I haven’t worked with her in a while, and it was great to do so again. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. You’ll now see the image above replacing all of the temporary cover images for the book on this site.

A Dragon at the Gate officially comes out on August 17th. Be sure to follow me on Amazon or sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss it when it drops! Got to this page from somewhere else and want to know more right now? Here ya go…

A DRAGON AT THE GATE

Michael Flynn has lost time. An operative in the worldwide conspiracy known as the Agents of Aeneas, the last thing he remembers is the struggle to retake Paragon—the derelict alien spacecraft found crashed on the Moon. Yet that was three months ago. Now, as he wakes in a hospital back in the high-tech, urban strife of Northgate, his struggle begins anew.

The Agents of Aeneas have vanished.

His friends are either missing, in danger, or altered. Hired killers shadow his every move. And Jade, the mysterious, cyber-enhanced woman watching over him, will give no answers. Thrust into a blind search for the truth, Michael needs allies. Yet whom can he trust when once loyal friends may have turned against him?

Meanwhile, an intelligence thought trapped within Paragon has escaped to Northgate. Driven to fulfill the goals of the mysterious “Planners,” it, too, seeks allies. When it finds them, it will transform the face of Northgate, the world, and the entire human race.

The year 2051 draws to a close, and nothing will be the same.

Following A Shadow in the Flames and A Memory the Black, A Dragon at the Gate is the third and final book in my cyberpunk series The New Aeneid Cycle: In the high-tech urban violence of the mid-21st century, humanity seems destined to destroy itself. Now those who seek to save it may have just found the means…

Did I Choose My Genre? Or Did It Choose Me?

July 3, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Those two questions up there in the title were recently asked of me by a couple of other authors (well, with pronouns adjusted properly), and, after a bit of conversation, out popped this post.

It’s an interesting question to us writer-folk, and I’m betting it is to some of you reader-folk, too. Why do we write what we write, and how did we arrive there? My control-freak, gut reaction is to say that I choose my genre. I’m in control of my own destiny! I make my own choices! I not a robot, I am a human being!

Bioshock joke. Would you kindly just ignore it if you don't get it?

Book Excerpt: Wizzy Wig by Tiffany Pitts

June 28, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Wizzy Wig by Tiffany Pittz

Warning: May contain nanotech-augmented cats. Also pizza.

Today I’ve got a bit of fun to share with you! It’s an excerpt from author Tiffany Pitts’s light-hearted–yet simultaneously deadly–Seattle-based sci-fi adventure novel Wizzy Wig. (Wow, I used all my hyphens in that sentence, huh?)
You might remember my review of Wizzy Wig just a few months ago, which included positive statements like this:

Pitts writes with a uniquely delightful literary voice. Her particular brand of contemporary sci-fi adventure somehow manages to present life-and-death situations alongside blithe imagination in a way that often seems to look askance at reality as if to say, “Really, reality? Really?”

I’m not sure if I’m making sense here, so to sum up my opinion more concisely: Wizzy Wig is a fun sci-fi read that’s certainly worth your time. Especially if you like cats. And strong characters of any gender. And reality-bending pizza.

Well, now Tiffany has provided me with a chapter from Wizzy Wig to share with you. So, without further babbling on my part, have a read!

Now (Re)publishing via Red Muse Press!

June 1, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

And so it begins!

So you heard the news a few weeks ago: Booktrope, the publisher I signed with in 2014, went out of business as of May 31st. As I retain the rights to my books, I’ve chosen, for the moment, to republish them myself under my own imprint. I’m now pleased to present to you the name of that imprint, along with its own fancy-ass logo!

Red Muse Press Logo

Actually, I suppose it’s kind of a simple-ass logo. But it’s a logo. They’re supposed to be efficient like that. And I really like it. So there.
