Bad Sci-Fi Theater: Australiens (2016)

September 4, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Australiens

Even the tagline tries to warn you!

Bad Sci-Fi Theater!

It’s time for another Bad Sci-Fi Theater recap, the Geek Notes feature where I try to make the best of watching terrible movies so you can crack maybe half a grin. This time, a movie I picked purely based on the title alone: AUSTRALIENS!

Okay, I think I’ve picked every BSFT movie by the title alone, so I suppose that’s not so noteworthy. What might be noteworthy is that I went into this movie not expecting it to be a comedy. (On the other hand, given how many times jokes just fell flat, one might watch the entire movie and not realize it’s a comedy…) I’ll say a little more about that at the end, but for now, here’s the trailer, followed by the tweet-a-thon…

Pooh and Piglet at Tanagra – a tweet that exploded

August 21, 2016 By Michael G. Munz 1 Comment

It’s really weird how the Internet works sometimes. I’ve got a fairly strong Twitter presence (@TheWriteMunz). Twitter is great for me, since I tend to spout weird little things regardless of whether or not I’m on the Internet. Before I had Twitter, I’d just say these things to an empty apartment, text them out of the blue to confused friends, or just share them with random strangers on the bus. Some things I tweet expecting to get a great response, only to receive silence. Some little throw-away comments get far more attention than I thought. You really can’t tell.

Since I tweet for humor, often with fantasy/sci-fi angles (gotta keep up with the “branding” to fit in with my books, don’tcha know), I sometimes seize on a particular concept I like and then run it into the ground with it. Slogans for Soylent Green that tout its people content. Additional Asimov Laws of Robotics. #LittleKnownSciFiFacts (with “facts” used loosely). [Read more…]

A Dragon at the Gate – RELEASE DAY!

August 17, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

It’s finally here!

A Dragon at the Gate is now officially available! The saga of my cyberpunk series The New Aeneid Cycle is now complete! You can finally find out what’s going to happen with the timed nanopoison in a certain character’s heart, if another character’s fractured memory can be salvaged, and just what the heck is lurking in the unexplored parts of the crashed alien craft on the moon!

A Dragon at the Gate launch promo

Plus, for a limited time,  you can get the ebook versions of A Shadow in the Flames and A Memory in the Black (books 1 & 2) for just 99 cents!

Reviews from early readers are already starting to come in:

“A Dragon at the Gate was a perfect way to finish a creative and inventive series. If you are into dark, futuristic fiction with a great touch of humor, The New Aeneid Cycle is a fantastic series for you.” —2BookLoversReviews.com

“From the first page to the last, A Dragon At The Gate was packed cover to cover with action, mystery and those nagging little questions that keep you turning pages hours after you should have already been asleep.” —Kelly Upton, Amazon review

“For the first 150 pages, the adventure from the first two books in the series continues. There are some surprises, but I saw the novel as a nice, well-done continuation. And for the record, I was worried about recalling the events of the first two, but I shouldn’t have been. There are subtle reminders to jog your memory without seeming obtrusive or out of place. Then, wow, this goes places I could never have imagined.” —Matt Ward, Goodreads review

“Michael’s narrative style is fast paced, often sliding into a conversational tone, making the book a fun read. He never tells you what happens, he relates it, which is a hallmark of the great writers.” —Cain Latrani, author of Rise

I’m EXCITED!!
(Did I mention that?)

Right now, A Dragon at the Gate is in a limited release, available in both paperback and ebook on Amazon only. In November it will also be available on Nook, iTunes, and Kobo, but for the moment I’m taking advantage of an Amazon advertising program that’s only available if the book is exclusive to them. The better a book does in its first 30 days on Amazon, the more attention it gets for the rest of its life, so I’m doing all I can to boost it there.

So hey, why not grab the book right now? And then have some ice cream! You deserve it!

Chapter One of A Dragon at the Gate

August 12, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

With less than a week before the August 17th release of A Dragon at the Gate (a.k.a. the third and final book in my cyberpunk series The New Aeneid Cycle), it’s time for a sneak peak at the first chapter. And don’t forget, for a limited time you can get the first two books for Kindle for just 99 cents!

Enjoy the sneak peak!

Chapter One

Chapter One

“THOSE ARE SIRENS.”

“Aye,” Caitlin said. “Ambulance, I’d wager. Horizon is right across from a hospital, ducks.”

Felix shook his head. “Wrong kind of sirens. And my memory’s not so bad that I don’t know where Horizon is. I also remember that it’s on the fifth through tenth floors of the Aria Building and that I once dropped my cheeseburger riding the elevator.”

Michael searched the taxi’s passenger side mirror for the source of the sirens. “Why were you eating a cheeseburger in an elevator?”

“Why wasn’t there bacon on it? That’s a better question.” [Read more…]

Bad Sci-Fi Theater: Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs (2015)

July 17, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs (2015)

Whoever wins, the viewer loses.

Bad Sci-Fi Theater!

It’s time again for Bad Sci-Fi Theater here on Geek Notes, where I watch terrible movies so you don’t have to! …Or so you can know about them and watch them, too, assuming you’re into that. (I can’t throw stones, after all.)

This one had been haunting me on Netflix for a while, showing up in my suggested movies, daring me to click on it. Hey, when you’re entertained by horrible schlock as much as I am, Netflix takes notice and throws…oh, just so much more at you. So a couple of weeks ago I finally gave in and cracked the e-seal on what would surely be a rousing sci-fi adventure!

…Right? [Read more…]

If you’ve read the rest of The New Aeneid Cycle, I’m sure you recognize by now the work of Amalia Chitulescu. I haven’t worked with her in a while, and it was great to do so again. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. You’ll now see the image above replacing all of the temporary cover images for the book on this site.

A Dragon at the Gate officially comes out on August 17th. Be sure to follow me on Amazon or sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss it when it drops! Got to this page from somewhere else and want to know more right now? Here ya go…

A DRAGON AT THE GATE

Michael Flynn has lost time. An operative in the worldwide conspiracy known as the Agents of Aeneas, the last thing he remembers is the struggle to retake Paragon—the derelict alien spacecraft found crashed on the Moon. Yet that was three months ago. Now, as he wakes in a hospital back in the high-tech, urban strife of Northgate, his struggle begins anew.

The Agents of Aeneas have vanished.

His friends are either missing, in danger, or altered. Hired killers shadow his every move. And Jade, the mysterious, cyber-enhanced woman watching over him, will give no answers. Thrust into a blind search for the truth, Michael needs allies. Yet whom can he trust when once loyal friends may have turned against him?

Meanwhile, an intelligence thought trapped within Paragon has escaped to Northgate. Driven to fulfill the goals of the mysterious “Planners,” it, too, seeks allies. When it finds them, it will transform the face of Northgate, the world, and the entire human race.

The year 2051 draws to a close, and nothing will be the same.

Following A Shadow in the Flames and A Memory the Black, A Dragon at the Gate is the third and final book in my cyberpunk series The New Aeneid Cycle: In the high-tech urban violence of the mid-21st century, humanity seems destined to destroy itself. Now those who seek to save it may have just found the means…

Bad Sci-Fi Theater: Stung (2015)

June 18, 2016 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

I’d like to introduce a new recurring feature here on Geek Notes: The feature with the descriptive yet banal name…

Bad Sci-Fi Theater!

Stung (2015)

Might be a good time to blink.

See, so-bad-it’s-good sci-fi is something of a guilty pleasure of mine. I’m not sure if I should blame adolescent viewings of Mystery Science Theater 3000, more recent times of getting together with bunches of people to watch things like The Beast of Yucca Flats, or just a general weirdness on my part. Perhaps all three. The point is, if you love to watch (and make fun of) bad sci-fi, these entries might be for you.

And hey, if you follow me on Twitter (@TheWriteMunz), you might even catch me doing it live with the hashtag #BSFT, and can even join in. Most of what I watch will likely be on Netflix streaming, and sometimes I’ll be joining up with other geeks to watch simultaneously. [Read more…]
