So in a fit of wanting to do something else beyond guest blogs posts and interviews for the Zeus Is Dead Tour, I got an idea in my head the other day and messed around in Photoshop in a way that was surely the most efficient use of time in the history of the UNIVERSE!
Bob’s Burgers fans may like this. The rest of you may just think I’m insane.
But let’s face it, most of you probably think that anyway, right? đ
I’m going to make this review quick, and with one (marked & minor) exception, spoiler-free:
I saw Star Wars when I was 7 or 8, when it was re-released in theaters. I no longer remember at all my first viewing, or what it was like. 2/3rds of the way through Guardians of the Galaxy, I realized, “This is what watching Star Wars for the first time must have been like.” Amazing visuals, fantastic characters, a huge sense of fun in a big sci-fi/fantasy package. While I felt some of the character-bonding wasn’t quite earned, that’s a minor flaw, and easily forgiven.
I wonder how much Vin Diesel got paid to say five words. Good gig, that. đ
Long story short: Just frigging go see it.

Shouting these lines of Trek dialogue are guaranteed to result in cheers from those in the know, and strange, confused, and possibly frightened looks from those who aren’t. Well, Zeus Is Dead officially launched one week ago today, and it’s off to a great start. I couldn’t have done it without the help of the Zeus Is Dead Launch Team, a group of volunteers who received an advance reader e-copy of the novel in exchange for posting an honest review and helping to get the word out about the novel online.

Hercules: He’s just zis guy, ya know?
Okay, I’ll get this out of the way right at the front: This is NOT the movie the trailer advertises. If you want to see Hercules performing the Twelve Labors, if you want to see him fighting monsters, dealing with gods, and burning the heads off of a hydra, that’s not this movie. I’m confident in saying that 99% of the monster-fighting in the movie is shown in the trailer. Pretty much all of THAT is in flashback told via an unreliable narrator, and takes place within the first five minutes. Also: no gods. None. Zeus is mentioned. Hera gets a statue. That’s it. Essentially it’s yet another movie that decides to tell tales based on Classical mythology by stripping out 90% of the stuff that makes Classical mythology so interesting. [Read more…]
