The Simpsons - That's a paddlin'

Missing an opportunity to win free stuff?

Hey everyone! Did you know I sometimes hold giveaways for sci-fi/fantasy books and other cool stuff? If not, that’s probably because you’re not subscribed to my Geek Notes mailing list! (That, or you are subscribed but the Men in Black have erased the emails from your inbox in order to protect you from the Great Secret that lives in your linen closet, which you did not hear about from me.)

This week subscribers can enter to win one of the following: [Read more…]

Geek Notes Giveaway #1 Winners

May 13, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

As those of you who’ve subscribed to my website mailing list already know, last week saw the first Geek Notes Giveaway contest. Only subscribers to the mailing list were eligible to enter, and I’m pleased to say that the winners were chosen last weekend. Congratulations to Mike and Joseph (winners of an e-copy of J.M. Guillen’s Rationality Zero), Linda and Herb (winners of an e-copy of Kenneth G. Bennett’s Exodus 2022), and Mary (winner of an autographed paperback of Exodus 2022)!

And yes, they have last names, but I mean it when I say that information given when subscribing to the list is not given out. In fact, some of them I don’t even know last names for myself…

Rationality Zero by J.M. GuillenExodus 2022 by Kenneth G. BennettOf course, since this was giveaway #1, that must mean that there will be a giveaway #2! (‘Cause I’m logical like that. I mean, ya know, sometimes.) Want to be eligible for the next giveaway? Be sure to sign up for the Geek Notes newsletter mailing list. You’ll even get a free copy of Mythed Connections right off the bat!

Thanks to everyone who entered! Watch for the newsletter for word of the next giveaway…

To tide you over…

April 19, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 1 Comment

Hi everyone! For those of you waiting for the next Percy Jackson entry or Farscape rewatch, please know that they’re coming! The Great Laptop Implosion last week wiped out what I had for the next chapter and the next two episodes, and having to re-do what I’d already done is never as much fun. (I make notes in Word on my laptop as I read/watch, then I go from there to actually write the post, only moving things online in the final stage.)

The rest of my last few days have been taken up with other things such as seeing/reviewing Ex Machina, writing more of A Dragon at the Gate, a guest post for another website (I’ll tell you about that when it’s live) and taking part in a podcast about mythology. Oh, and I also did some laundry and went to Costco. Are you not FASCINATED?! 😉

But I do have something quick to amuse you. Earlier today I was out in one of my writing haunts when I looked out the window at the outside table that I was sitting next to and saw this little AT-AT doing a bit of writing of its own…

Sucker's got no opposable thumbs and it STILL writes faster than I do!

Good news! I’ve been invited to a wedding!

Iron ThroneSorry the blog’s been a bit quiet this week, everyone. I’ve been busy at Norwescon reading from Zeus Is Dead and appearing on panels. (Sometimes I actually speak while I’m on them, even!) Also, I passed George R. R. Martin in the hallway and survived.

I hope to have something more interesting for you here soon, including the next installment of Michael Reads Percy Jackson: The Titan’s Curse…

My Norwescon 2015 Schedule

March 15, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Norwescon 2015

It’s entirely possible I may freak out on stage, and you don’t want to miss THAT, do you?

As I mentioned here back in January, this year’s Norwescon will by my first time ever attending a sci-fi convention as an invited professional. (I know; I’m as shocked as you are!) In January I didn’t know any more beyond that I’d be on a few panels and would also be reading from Zeus Is Dead and signing autographs at some point in the conference.

Well, I’ve received my final schedule, and now I’m sharing it with you. If you’ll be in the Seattle area between April 2nd and 5th and are up for hanging out with a bunch of sci-fi/fantasy folk, head on down to the Doubletree by Hilton Seattle Airport and say hi! (Note that pre-registration closes March 28th.) [Read more…]

Coming soon: A Memory in the Black – Booktrope Edition!

February 24, 2015 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Booktrope_logo_color-300x233If you’ve been watching this site for a little while, you already know that A Shadow in the Flames, my cyberpunk novel (and the first novel I ever wrote) was re-published under Seattle publisher Booktrope’s label last December. The new version featured slight improvements to the self-published ebook I released in June 2013, and a paperback edition! [Read more…]

Review: Trapped in a Room with a Zombie (Seattle)

February 22, 2015 By Michael G. Munz 8 Comments

I have faced the zombie at the base of Seattle’s Queen Anne Hill and emerged victorious!

Okay, so I can’t take all the credit. I was part of a team, and together we kicked the crap out of the zombie known as Doctor Oxy and escaped her room of puzzley terror! Well, all of us except for Clint. Clint got bit. But his sacrifice was not in vain!

You probably want to know just what the holy heck I’m talking about, huh? [Read more…]
