Top 5 List: Things We Need in Twin Peaks 2016

October 6, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

It is happening...again...

It is happening…again…

So if you haven’t heard the news, co-creators Mark Frost and David Lynch are returning to Twin Peaks for a 9-episode series taking place 25 years after the events of the original series. It will arrive sometime in 2016 on Showtime. Now comes the waiting. (“It’s hard. Waiting.” – Deputy Andy “I’m a whole damn town!” Brennan)

So yes, we must wait, but that means we’ve got at least a year and three months to gleefully speculate! I plan to head out back with the rocks and bottles just as soon as I can in order to determine just what we’ll see in 2016. (Would you please put on the kitchen mittens?) I also want to blog  a bit more about my thoughts on this whole thing. But meanwhile, I may as well use this as fodder for the next in my series of geek-related Top 5 Lists!

Top Five Things We Need to See in Twin Peaks 2016

Now hopefully you won’t mind my taking it upon myself to speak for all of you in that whole “we” thing there. But, hey, this is my blog. If you care to disagree, or think I’ve forgotten something, by all means, correct me in the comments!

Oh, and of course, this list will contain massive spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen the series yet, so proceed at your own risk. …Unless you’re the person I’m currently showing the series to, in which case, back away! [Read more…]

A Shadow in the Flames re-release

September 20, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Booktrope_logo_color-300x233I’m behind on my blogging duties, but it’s been for  a good cause, I promise! For one, I’ve been working on writing more of A Dragon at the Gate. For another, I’ve been working with Booktrope to get my first novel, A Shadow in the Flames, ready to be re-published through them! No longer will it be a self-published novel. It’s great to have Booktrope throw in their support for ASITF.

For those of you who know me from my comedic fantasy novel Zeus Is Dead, you’ll find A Shadow in the Flames to be a different (but hopefully still enjoyable) experience. A sci-fi novel that some have called “cyberpunk but with more hope,” ASITF centers around Michael Flynn, a young man struggling to find his way in the urban, cybernetic violence of the mid-21st century. While it’s not a comedy, elements of my sense of humor do make an appearance at times, especially through the character of Felix Hiatt, a wise-cracking self-described “information bounty hunter” who features heavily in the novel. Seattle Geekly Podcast

September 3, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

On August 24th I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon and Matt, two great local geek-types who host the popular Seattle Geekly podcast. I traveled to their studio in west Seattle to meet their feline interns and talk to them about Zeus Is Dead. Shannon also read and reviewed the book (and Matt’s now got it on his own reading list), and I’m happy to say she really liked it!

I mean just imagine how awkward things would’ve been if she’d thought it sucked, right?

Blog Tour Recap!

August 19, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Last Friday marked the final day of my first ever book tour—the online tour for the release of Zeus Is Dead. It lasted July 21st to August 15th, and by all accounts was a success. Okay, so I haven’t caught up with Fifty Shades of Twilight Fanfic yet, but if I may quote our tall friend from Twin Peaks…

The Giant - Twin Peaks

“A path is formed by laying one stone at a time.”

The tour was a great experience, and it was suggested that I put a cap on it with a post about what I learned along the way. [Read more…]

Top 5 List: Must-have Items When Embarking On an Adventure

August 17, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Top5The secret algorithm has decided that it’s again time for another geek-related Top 5 List! (Said secret algorithm is totally a mathematical model run on a Cray supercomputer and is in no way just a fancy metaphor for my own personal whims.) This time around, it’s a special one originally created for the 8/12 stop on the Zeus Is Dead Blog Tour, but posted here on my own blog for the first time.

Top Five Things You Absolutely Cannot Leave Home Without When Embarking (Up)on an Adventure

This topic was suggested to me by fellow author Gareth S. Young as one of  a few possible ideas for a guest blog post on the tour. This was the one of his that I liked the most, as you likely already figured out due to the fact that I’ve written this. So, in no particular order… [Read more…]

A Dragon at the Gate (early excerpt!)

August 9, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

With all the work I’ve had to do amid the launch of Zeus Is Dead, it feels like it’s been months since I’ve been able to get any real work done on writing my current work-in-progress, the third and final installment of my sci-fi series The New Aeneid Cycle, tentatively titled A Dragon at the Gate. Yet this weekend I’m finally plunging back into it.

My first step: reacquaint myself with the characters and what I’ve written so far. I’m in the midst of re-reading the eleven chapters I’ve written thus far, and as I read Chapter Four it occurred to me that I could share an excerpt with all of you. [Read more…]

Star Trek Las Vegas Loves Zeus Is Dead

August 5, 2014 By Michael G. Munz Leave a Comment

Zeus Is Dead: A Monstrously Inconvenient Adventure, written by a geek for geeks, took a trip (without me!) to the Star Trek Las Vegas convention last weekend. I present to you conclusive proof that the novel is accepted by geeks throughout the Alpha Quadrant:

Well, conclusive proof from a sample of one Orion woman and one bearded Starfleet commander. But that's infinitely more Orion women than Tolstoy ever got!

Well, conclusive proof from a sample of one Orion woman and one bearded Starfleet commander. But that’s infinitely more Orion endorsements than Tolstoy ever got!

“Zeus Is Dead is full of laugh-out-loud moments, lashings of sly wit, moan-worthy puns, and a complex, fast-paced storyline. There aren’t very many humorous fantasy murder mysteries out there, especially not as intricately constructed as this one. Michael G. Munz takes a ‘What if,’ and runs with it like a toddler with Mom’s smart phone. The guffaw-worthy throwaway bits will remind you of Douglas Adams. A very enjoyable read.”
